Initially, the breeding of AQPS horses required only the mating of thoroughbred horses with other breeds, be it Selle Français, Anglo-Arabs, sport horses and even French Trotter, generally destined for jump racing. Gradually, however, thanks to a more rigorous selection, specific lines are appearing at the highest level of this discipline in Europe. Seeking to distinguish these lines of excellence, the AQPS Association convinced the institutions responsible for managing the breeding of racehorses in France, namely France Galop, the National Stud and more generally the Ministry of Agriculture to support the creation of a studbook, which would aid in developing a breed specifically designed for jumping.

These efforts culminated in 2005 with the birth of the AQPS breed, a label that now means horses that are designed to succeed in the best jump races but are an alternative to thoroughbreds, and no longer means all of these racehorses are referred to en masse as half-bloods. The support of the Selle Français and Anglo-Arab studbooks has been instrumental in the birth of the AQPS breed and its studbook. The first AQPS horses recognized as such were therefore born in 2006 and are 3 year olds in 2009. They appear in the official France Galop programme with the affix "AQ", now synonymous with French Chaser in English. Owners and breeders who wish to acquire a horse designed to jump now know what to look for! |
