Grand Steeple de Craon-Prix Telopee 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 21 September 2009 00:00
Sunday, Sept. 21st.www.frogsracig.com The second last meeting at Craon this season was a mix of jumps and flat races but as usual in the West, chasing was all the rage. The home star David Cottin shined in the Grand Steeple - Chase de Craon (L - 4200m) aboard the amazing pocket chaser Quecy de Chadzeau (AQPS-Network) while Pause Cafe (AQPS-Video Rock) should rise into Cross-country stardom in the coming months.

Easier winner of her last race at Auteuil in the Prix Oteuil SF over chase fences, the 5 year old mare Quecy de Chadzeau (AQPS-Network) dominated in the final stages of the Grand Steeple - Chase de Craon.
This full sister of the champion chaser Rubi Ball(AQPS-Network) was ridden by David Cottin for Guillaume Macaire, in the colours of Michel de Gigou, President of the AQPS Association. It was a home success for David Cottin, who was winning the Craon classic for the first time and is more than ever favourite for the champion rider title with 64 wins so far this season over the jumps. "She is small but not light, she jumps superbly and gives her all", summed up her jockey to the Paris Turf

Pause Café won easily his second cross country of the season at Craon in the Prix Telopee (5000m). Held up by Sebastian Zuliani, the prodigy of French lawyer Antoine-Audoin Maggiar moved into attack mode on the last bend and decidedly took the lead over the last obstacle, where Paimpolais (AQPS-Grand Tresor), also coming into this race off a win, tried in vain to hold onto the lead. Trained by Etienne Leenders, he won by 6 lengths from Native Doctor (AQPS-Dear Doctor), who came back on the flat to pass Paimpolais and complete a female 1-2. "She confirmed all of our thoughts of her", announced trainer Etienne Leenders to the Paris Turf. The winning trainer has already saddled the winner of the Grand Cross this year, Chriseti. "The winner booked her place in the Grand Cross for next year but on a more immediate note, she will be prepared for the Grand Cross de Pau, then the Anjou - Loire Challenge." The latter is advertized as the "longest cross-country on Earth" (7,300m), ran in May at the Lion-d'Angers racecourse.
Bred by her owner and brothers Thierry and Jacques Cypres, the 6 year old finally passed the €100,000 prize money mark. She is the first produce of Insoumise (AQPS-Royal Charter), a Haras de Saint-Voir-bred who took a chase at Enghien when trained by Guy Cherel. Insoumise is a cousin of the good AQPS Patte de Velour (Mansonnien), who is out of a sister by Video Rock of her dam Birgonde (Quart de Vin).

Prix Finot Aet B 2009 Auteuil PDF Print E-mail

A good flat performer, Sable des Dunes (Al Namix) won a B race in Nantes and made all fof his hurdling debut in the first lot of the €58,000 Prix Finot 3yo Beginners' Hurdle (L - 3,600m). Trained by Patrice Quinton, bred by his partner Patricia Lebocey, he left the AQPS horse Son Amix (AQPS-Fragrant Mix), who was impressive on his first run on the flat at Saint Malo, three lengths behind. Prospert le Grand (Enrique) was 3rd after galloping close to the leaders on the outside. The Guy Cherel-trained Taiikos (Take Risks) finished well.
Francois Doumen sees a return to the flat for second placed Son Amix, "He jumped a bit big but I am very pleased with his early runs. However we will take him back on the flat, maybe in the Prix du Bourbonnais (AQPS - 2600m at Maisons Laffitte, the 10th October)."
In the second lot of the Finot, just as in the first version (L - 3600m), the leading group dominated the race and the leader Surfing (AQPS - Califet) had the last word but he had to fend off a strong attack from Good Lord (Lord of Men) who went into overdrive too late to have decisive effect. Always in the frame, Darban (Kalanisi) kept 3rd place in front of Sous Officier (AQPS-Alberto Giacometti), who made headway on the bend and stayed on well.
Trainer of the winner, Guy Cherel, plans on taking his time with the ML Bloodstock bred horse: "He might go on holidays now; it will stop me from rushing him. His mother was good but she was crazy and I didn't persevere with her. She bred Noumea (Assessor), then Ocean Beach (Nononito, notably 4th in the Edmond Barrachin). This one here is maybe even better that that. Sous Officier needs to harden up but he is without a doubt a chaser." Cherel landed another hat trick courtesy of haflbred nutcase Rochdale (AQPS-Video Rock) who made all but jumped awkwardly in the €44,000 Prix Pierre Cypres Halfbred 4&5 Mares Hurdle (3,600m).

Prix Jean Noiret AQPS 2009 Auteuil PDF Print E-mail

Winner at Rochefort over hurdles and then at Le Lion over fences, the 4 year old  Royality (AQPS - Visionary) was successful on his first run over the fences of Auteuil in the Prix Jean Noiret (AQPS-3.600m). The protégé of Philippe Peltier, who he found at his breeder's Amedee Choupeault, galloped in the leading group before accelerating away from Rosignol Collonges (AQPS-Brier Creek) and Ryes (AQPS-Rifapour), who had attempted an attack on the bend , and finished a length and a half in front of Ryes et Rosignol. "He was a little keen in running for his second chase and his first one here", explained Philippe Peltier, "but David Berra had to take a pull at the bullfinch when the gap closed in front of him. It actually benefited him; it gave him to time to take a breather. He picked up speed at the last, which he jumped well. I got him at the end of the year when he was a 2 year old. I had seen him at Lion, when he won, but I wasn't a big fan of his sire".
