Prix Beaugency-Thuya-Auteuil 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 November 2009 00:00
Prix de Beaugency (Haies-3.600m-3ans  A winner on his debut over hurdles in the Prix Finot (L), about two months ago, Surfing (AQPS-Califet) confirmed his class brilliantly in the Prix Beaugency (Hurdle-3yos-3600m). Straight to the front, he made a few mistakes, especially over the last hurdle, the Guy Cherel charge approached the last bend several lengths in front and triumphed easily. Son Amix (AQPS-Fragrant Mix) snatched second place from Sulon (AQPS-Passing Sale) and Saccageur (AQPS-Poliglote). "He only needs to grow up a bit, and is destined for chasing," said Guy Cherel. "Like Sway, and horses with a lot of ability, he is a little too sure of himself and plays with his strength. It's because of this that he made those mistakes. It's more that than tiredness, even if this ground is not easy for 3 year olds. He will start 2010 over hurdles until late April because his owner wants to keep him as a novice. He will go to England into training with Nicky Henderson at the end of his 4 year old career." Surfing has in fact been sold to Michael Buckley, who owns a dozen horses in training Nicky Henderson, and some in Ireland with John Harrington. Surfing's mother, Hawaii de Vonnas (AQPS-Cadoudal), who was also trained by Guy Cherel, has already bred Noumea (AQPS-Assessor), winner at Pau twice before being fatally injured in a race in late 2005. She has a yearling by Goldneyev and a foal by Khalkevi.

Prix Thuya (AQPS-Steeple-4.100m-5ans) Guy Cherel and Cyrille Gombeau achieved a hat-trick with victory of Quito de Billeron (AQPS-Sleeping Car) in the Prix Thuya (AQPS-4yos-4100m). The representative of Irene Catsaras got the best of Quello (AQPS-Red Boat) and Quaniel (AQPS-Thames), on the flat consistent set. The favourite Quoquoalco (AQPS-Nononito) was never as threat when finishing in fifth.

Rigodon Ville (AQPS-Visionary) was successful on his jumping debut when winning the Prix du Simplon (Hurdle-M4yos-3600m). He confirmed the opinion of his connections. "We ran him on the flat but the goal has always been to go jumping," said Laurent Viel. "I started him jumping quite late because he is immature. David Berra told me that he is a good horse. I trust him because he has ridden a lot of good horses!" Rigodon Ville was raised by his owner, Jerome Poumaillou, in who's colours his mother, Quady City (Le Pontet) a winner of the Grand Steeple de Nancy, also ran. At stud, her best known offspring to date is Huseful Ville (AQPS-Useful), a good performer in cross country races in the West.

Rhea Silva (AQPS-Ungaro) was successful on his jumping debut when winning  Prix La Fregate (Haies-F4yos-3.600m).

Prix Guilledines AQPS Durtal 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Prix des Guilledines (AQPS-B-2.200m-F3ans)  Beaten on the line in the Prix des Guilledines (AQPS-3yo Fillies-2200m), the Prix de Diane for AQPS horses, Sun des Mottes (AQPS-Adnaan) was unable to imitate her sister, Royce des Mottes (AQPS-Maresca Sorrento), the winner of the previous edition of this race. "Despite a good run behind the leader, the filly pulled too much, using up too much energy. She paid the price in the finish," said her jockey Alexandre Roussel with regret. The victory went to the Chaillé runner Santalisa (AQPS-Laveron) who battled courageously to get the upperhand. Her partner, Thomas Fourcy, was not very confident before the race: "She had a back problem a fortnight ago. And during the race, I didn't feel I had much gas in the tank. I had to work hard for the win." She has not been seen since her win first time out in mid-July, when she beat Sir Dream in Royan, the latter then finished in front of Sun des Mottes at Sables d'Olonne. Santalisa is a daughter of Ephese V (AQPS-Useful), who won one race on the flat at Granville from 21 attempts including one over hurdles (6th at Rochefort). She has produced six winners for Patrick Boiteau, who also bred of Cyrlight and Karly Flight, including Myrtille Jersey (AQPS-Murmure), who won eleven times on the flat and over hurdles. She also has a 2 year old by Smadoun and a yearling colt by Ballingarry. www.frogsracing.com

Prix Coq Gaulois-Gillois-Fondeur-WEIOA 2009 Auteuil PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 08 November 2009 00:00
Sunday 8th Auteuil. www.frogsracing.com The first past the post in the Prix Coq Gaulois (AQPS - 4years - 4.100m), Rennais (AQPS-Passing Sale), lost the race in the stewards room shortly afterwards after he was judged to have interfered with the second placed Rock and Co (AQPS-Video Rock) on the flat.
Both horses had overtaken the brave leader Riz Amer (AQPS-Michel Georges) between the last two hurdles. On the flat, Rennais hung to his left when coming alongside his rival. The head on showed that the latter had been interfered with by Rennais and his jockey.

The first two home are both promising chasers. "He's a big machine, but a beautiful horse," said Philippe Peltier about Rennais. "It is a cross country family. I bought him from Mr. Papot before last winter, when he was in pre-training with Jean-Jacques Lenouvel. He has done little wrong since in his races as he has always been in the money. He was beaten over hurdles by Rendons Grace and by Rigoleto Collonges on his chasing debut. The last time he ran without a front shoe ... He had earlier lost it over the practise hurdle."
The younger sister of Rennais by Califet, Souple Angevine(AQPS) is in training with Guy Cherel. Their dam, Rip Rap (AQPS-Saumon), won once on the flat but has already bred five winners. She is a sister of Patarouzett (AQPS-Quart de Vin), who won five of his eight victories in cross country races at Granville.

For what will probably be his last appearance on French soil, the 4 year old Long Run (Cadoudal) proved himself superior in Prix Maurice Gillois (Gr1-Chase-4yos- 4400m). The Benedict and Marie-Christine Gabeur homebred, trained by Guillaume Macaire for Robert Waley-Cohen, gradually moved closer to the leading group led by his chief rival, Rubi Ball (AQPS - Network), who beat him in the Ferdinand Dufaure (Gr1).

Prix Ketch- D'Automne-WEIOA 2009 Auteuil PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 07 November 2009 00:00

Saturday 7th Auteuil The 3 year old AQPS horse Salon de Provence (AQPS-Antarctica) has had eight runs in claiming races and has been successful on three of those starts before going on to run in handicaps. The representative of Francois Cottin, who is also his breeder, was quickly on the road to success when he dominated the coveted €80,000 Prix Ketch(3600m) on his second attempt."He was not a particularly elegant jumper, so I ran him in claimers early on," said Francois Cottin. "I don't think that he will run in the Fifrelet. It may be too difficult. However, I think he will make a good chaser. My other resident Sainvoirien (AQPS) pulled too much too on this ground. He shouldn't be judged on this performance."

The mother of Salon de Provence, Lai Lan d'Ox (AQPS-Video Rock), won on her debut at Argentan. The colt is her first produce, and she has since had a yearling filly by Discover d'Auteuil.

The 5 year old Questarabad (AQPS - Astarabad) dominated an uneventful €370,000 Grand Prix d'Automne (Gr1-4800m). Held up during the race, where Cyrlight (Saint Cyrien) returned to his attacking style, the Marcel Rolland charge joined the leaders at the entrance to the straight and beat an impressive Grande Haya (Solid Illusion), who finished second in front of Worldbest (Muhtathir).
It was an eleventh success for Questarabad, and his third Gr1 win after the Renaud du Vivier and the Grande Course de Haies. Today, as part of a younger generation of hurdlers, it is hard to see any horse threatening him pending the return of Monoalco (AQPS-Dom Alco). Out of the 4 year olds, his potential main rival in the future is also his stablemate - Rock Noir (AQPS-Mansonnien), unless he leaves France for the United Kingdom or Ireland.
"At times, he did not jump well," Marcel Rolland noted. "He was probably not in his rhythm. I do not think that he will run again this year. I do not believe that he will run away from the hurdles here at Auteuil either."
