Prix Carmarthen - Orcada 2009 Auteuil PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 11 October 2009 00:00

Sunday 11, Auteuil.www.frogsracing.com Prix Carmarthen (Gr3 - 3.900m). www.frogsracing.com Held up early on by Regis Schmidlin, Questarabad (AQPS-Astarabad) made up ground gradually on the far straight when the crack chestnut, Cyrlight (Saint Cyrien), began to make mistakes. He took over the lead in his own time - between the last two obstacles in the  Four lengths behind, Shinco Berlais (Indian River) got back up to take second place from Melcastle (Medaaly). After making an error at the last hurdle, Cyrlight gave up, and played no further part in the battle.
"He worked really well on Monday", said Marcel Rolland about Questarabad. "It was a real race today but he doesn't seem to have a hard race. I feel that this is one of the easiest victories of his career. He has been slow to develop and I don't think it would be wise to go chasing or abroad with him. He runs well here."

Sunday 11th Oct Auteuil. "He won with class". Xavier Papot is a good loser and didn't hesitate to come up and congratulate Guillaume Macaire. Long Run (Cadoudal) had dominated Papot's protégé, Rubi Ball (AQPS-Network), in the Prix Orcada. The hierarchy that was established in the spring, in the Prix Dufaure Ferdinand, was reversed. This Sunday, on ground softened by rain, Long Run showed what he was capable of...Rubi Ball was beaten on his return by Cokydal (Cadoudal), in the Prix Edmond Barrachin, when taking another second place. The chestnut had long led operations in the company of Rubis sur Ongle (Robin Field), but he could do nothing in the straight to worry Long Run. "He committed many mistakes, especially over the small obstacles, analysed Christophe Pieux. "He is a gentleman in his character. He reminds me of Or Jack... He does what he wants!" The comparison is not demeaning when you think of the wonderful career of this horse who has a special place in the heart of the top jockey...www.frogsracing.com

Gascony - Portal's Toy'second best good enough for success

www.frogsracing.com Mission accomplished for Portal's Toy (AQPS-Go Between), winner of the Prix de la Gascony (Listed-chase). The David Windrif representative made his return and although he was not at one hundred percent, less than his best was obviously good enough. "The ground didn't suit him today", said David Windrif, "he is not yet back to his best, although he has already got a bit of work behind him. He came back into training a month and a half ago. The goal is to go for the Grand Steeple d'Enghien in three weeks,I am hoping that the track won't be as soft. It is not normal that the ground is so heavy after a single day of rain ... In France, we can no longer have good ground horses!" ...
The winner, Portal's Toy, is the first produce out of Belle d'Escla (Mistigri), useful mare over cross country.

Louis Champion

Set up as a restricted trainer at Pompadour since last April, Fabien Lagarde had his first runner at Enghien, which also turned out to be his first victory in the Paris region. Monbresia (AQPS-Video Rock), winner of the Prix Louis Champion (AQPS-chase-4&5yos-3800m), has twice been successful on the track. "When I received her, she had no decent performances to her name," said the young professional. "So I ran her in a small cross country race in Dorat. She won easily, then did the same in a steeplechase at Pompadou. I think she just needed to mature. I haven't thought yet about where to run her next."...www.frogsracing.com

Auteuil Prix Patrick Lec AQPS 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 02 October 2009 00:00
1th October www.frogsracing.com - Victim of slipping up on the flat on his return at Fontainebleau, Roquemeaure (AQPS-Princeton) was much steadier on his feet when winning his first hurdle race from pillar to post in the Prix Patrick Lec (Hurdle-AQPS-4yo-3600m). Guy Cherel's charge, who also carries his colours, did not allow himself to be intimidated and responded well to Cyrille Gombeau's urgings when challenged on the flat. "Everything he does is very good," noted Guy Cherel, who purchased the colt from his breeder G. de Quatrebarbes, who is also a neighbour of the trainer's. "I am a little surprised. He didn't jump as good as that when schooled at home".
The colt's second dam is Ivanessa (Saubaber François), a half-blood winner of seven cross country races, whose daughter Belledonne (Shafoun) produced this colt. Since then Belledonne has had a yearling by Network and a foal by Day Flight.
