In the €150,000 Prix Troytown Chase (Gr3 - 4,400m) Don Mirande (AQPS-Turgeon) was brave enough though to take the trophy post to post leaving Polar Rochelais (AQPS-Le Balafre) finish second in front of Isnos (Fr-Limnos), so impressive last time out but rather flat on a ground not as deep as he would like.
"I have changed my mind, said Isabelle Pacault, trainer of Don Mirande. We first thought he was a bit fed up with the whole thing so I decided to let him relax behind. This time however, as I felt he was kidding us, I asked Sam Massinot (his rider) to move early on and take the lead. It worked !" |

The Jacques Ortet-trained 4yo Rubi Ball (AQPS-Fr-Network) took the lead of the new generation by easily defeating a 18-strong €150,000 Prix Duc d'Anjou Chase (Gr2-3,500m). This debut at Auteuil was well anticipated after the AQPS had ruled most of the Winter Pau meeting amongst the young chasers. He would have ended this season unbeaten had he not fallen in his last race. "He's a small champ with a big engine, said of him an elusive Christophe Pieux, back from his vacation in Brazil. I am glad he put the record straight after his Pau fall. He's a brilliant chaser. It was his first test over here and he just jumped everything as if he's done that all his life. I am extremely pleased." Rubi Ball is a full brother to Quecy de Chadzeau AQPS-(Fr-Network), an other son of the Haras Nationaux German-bred Network (Ger-Monsun), a very popular proposal for AQPS breeders around Cercy-la-Tour in Burgundy. The gelding was raised there by Jean-Louis Berger (the man behind the good jumps mare Kario de Sormain) and Pierre Duvigneaud. |
